Letter to Parents

As our first semester quickly comes to a close, it is important for us to be reminded of our successes these past few months.  There are certain benchmarks, both academic and extra-curricular, that we strive to reach each year.  These benchmarks indicate to us whether we are headed in the right direction, and also point out changes that may be needed to continue our success.  As you already k now, our ACT scores have increased over the past five years, with this year's composite score of 22.7 being the highest over this time period.  We continue to improve our curriculum and test preparation to keep these scores above the national average, and to provide your children with the most effective college-prep education in the area.

Once again, our extra-curricular are outstanding.  What else can we say about the Football Team that has not already been said?  Seven Straight State Championships, eight total since 1991!  Today, the Dance Team brought home a 1st place trophy from the Argo High School IDTA Invitational.  Congratulations ladies!  Girl's Basketball is off to a excellent start, Boy's basketball continues to win, the Bowlers look to make another trip Down State and the Wrestlers are making progress.  If you missed the Fall Drama Production of "The Diary of Anne Frank", you missed a memorable show, with all performances nearly sold out.   The Spring Musical, "West Side Story" may even surpass all previous musicals in terms of student participation and audience attendance.   Great things continue to happen at Driscoll Catholic and we are glad you are part of the Driscoll Success Story.

We do have a few areas we definitely need to improve:

  1. The first and most important is attendance.  Most of our student have great attendance records, but there are a significant number whose attendance has become an issue.  Doctor's appointments, vacations and "sick days" need to be kept to a minimum, so that your student is in attendance.  As with anything in life, being in the right place at the right time is essential for success, and the right place for your child is here at school, and on time.  Please help us make attendance a priority in this next semester.

  2. Also, cell phone usage is becoming a problem.  Please do not call or text your child during the school day.  It is difficult for us to enforce our rules concerning phone usage when a student says, "But it's my mom".  If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call the Main Office and we will relay the message.  Your cooperation is essential to minimize these classroom distractions.

Finally, the entire Driscoll Catholic Family acknowledges Senior Maggie Writt for being named to the Daily Herald Leadership Team "Top Ten",  recognized for her academic excellence, school leadership, and extraordinary volunteer efforts in the community.  Congratulations Maggie!  In addition, Senior Lauren White was named Honorable Mention to the Leadership Team, recognizing her efforts in leadership and service as well.  Congratulations Lauren!

This next  semester will be an important one for many reasons, as college acceptance letters, ACT tests and Junior Retreats require our attention.  Please continue to support us in our efforts to provide your child with a high quality, Catholic education in the Lasallian tradition.
